Knowledge Management
A steadily increasing number of enterprises regard the purposeful handling and management of information and knowledge as one of the substantial determinants of long-term success. This realisation brings a desire to foster, influence, plan and control the relevant knowledge and associated business processes. The tasks, solution approaches and strategies addressed as part of the process are grouped under the term knowledge management.
The significance of information technology (IT) to business knowledge management and its potential to affect it are emphasised throughout the literature on the subject. Yet, despite the broad attention the topic actually receives, holistic methods, concepts and suitable models for an appropriate representation of specialist content and its management rarely go beyond the use of standard technologies like document management, retrieval engines or web-access to them.
Multi-perspective enterprise models are the conceptual foundation of our work on knowledge management and serve as a repository of (semi-) formal corporate knowledge. At the same time they contribute to target group specific representation of knowledge and its dissemination throughout the company.
